PPA (Pusat Pengembangan Agribisnis) or Center HISTORICAL BACKGROUND PPA Consultants was established in July 1978. Initially, it operated as a foundation under the name of Yayasan Agribisnis (Agribusiness Foundation), but later it was changed into a consulting company. The idea behind the establishment of PPA Consultants was inspired by the dream of its founding fathers to accelerate the nation's development, particularly in reducing poverty, and improving the community's education and welfare. The founding fathers of PPA Consultants are a select group of Indonesian intellectuals and leaders, who have deep concerns in improving the quality and competitiveness of the nation. They are A.M. Saefuddin as a Chairman, M. Amin Aziz, M. Dawam Rahardjo, Adi Sasono, and Abdillah Toha as members. In the early stage of its operation, PPA Consultants focused its services on agriculture and rural development by introducing agribusiness approach. From 1978 to 1981 a number of projects were accomplished in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, food crops, cottage industries, irrigation, agricultural-cooperatives, and small and medium-enterprises development. During this period, M. Amin Aziz served as the director, and was supported by four senior experts, 15 professionals, and 25 sub-professional and supporting staff. The organization of PPA Consultants was developed accordingly, by establishing three departments, namely Department of Research and Consulting Services, Department of Community Services, and Department of Organization and Management. During the 1980s, PPA Consultants began to expand its organization and gradually increased the number, qualification and expertise of employees, both for professional and supporting staff. A significant number of projects from the public and private sectors were completed. The Management strongly believes that the growth of PPA Consultants is a reflection of trust from its employees and clients. In 1986 the Management established a strategic business unit called PT. Pusat Pengembangan Agribisnis (PPA Consultants) whose activities are devoted to providing consulting services on a professional and commercial basis, while the Agribusiness Foundation serves as a non-government organization (NGO), a non-profit organization that specializes in community development. In response to the market needs, since the early 1990s PPA Consultants has expanded its field of services to include education, industry, trade and finance. At the same time, PPA Consultants is also very active in developing networks and strategic alliances with both domestic and international consulting firms. Our commitment is to improve professionalism and to participate in the international competitive bidding (ICB) process. Since then, PPA Consultants has won many projects under ICB organized by various executing agencies in Indonesia. This success has encouraged PPA Consultants to enter the international market, especially in the Asian countries.
